Wandering the local Repco yesterday, and they've got a new line-up.

They've stepped away from the 0W40 A3/B4 (can buy 3 jugs of that on clearance for $90), and the top line is now a 5W40.

That 15L of 0W40 for $90 is like a siren song...but I can't justify getting it with no A3/B4 cars in the fleet.

Can even less justify the 6L of Delvax MX 10W30 for $40...

:sigh:

Who is their supplier these days ? Used to be BP, then Mobil, and have no idea these days. I don't even look at their own brand oils...maybe I'll take a closer look next time.

Last I heard, Penrite made the Repco house oils.

Out of that lot, the 5W30 SN & C3 synthetic would interest me the most.

But I already have too much oil, with the recent sales of GTX 15W40 UltraClean semi-synthetic at $15 for 5L (SN & A3/B3), plus Wesfil-Cooper oil filters at $4 from another sale, that gives me a sub $20 OCI.

Their logo reminds me of AutoZone here in the states..

Laugh !! That is about right, 10W30 for winter and 15W40 for summer.

Somewhat off topic, but still in Repco, what are your opinions on Nulon oils, in particular their synthetic offerings?

Nulon have been around since the 80's and I must admit that for most of the time I paid them little attention. I recall them selling a Teflon (PTFE) engine oil treatment ages back. Then later most of their oils contained Moly (MoDTC). So to me, early on, they were a bit of an additive based company. This changed and their selection of regular oils grew, but many of their specs were "recommended for" rather than real approvals.

However, in the last few years Nulon has produced some good looking oils with real factory approvals. They have a 5W30 Euro oil which is PAO (Group iV) based with real VW 504 / 507 factory approval, they also have long-life 5W30 with real Dexos1 (Gen 2) approval. These are all new oils. Their old 5W30 European formulation didn't pass real VW 504/507 and had to be reformulated, I think the old stuff was Group III with Moly, while the new stuff is Group IV without Moly.

So I think Nulon has improved a lot in the last 2 or 3 years. They have some very interesting looking Racing oils too.

Their "standard" synthetic still appears to be a Group III base with lots of Moly. If that's what you want, it's fine, and probably better than a Group II Dino with no Moly.

Anyway now that Nulon are getting some real specs, that are approved from outside Nulon, I trust them more.

I couldn't find much info on these oils so asked for a TDS for the RFS5 5w-30. Repco sent me an MSDS for it, missing some info but it's a start.
It appears that Penrite is still the manufacturer.
Seems a bit vague. What do you guys think?
