I never cease to be amazed at the lackadaisical disrespect of all of the potential energy contained in a vehicle and engine while wound up tight on a dyno. Maybe Darwin was onto something...

I'm proud to say that I saw that one in person, at the National Tractor Pulling Championships in Bowling Green, Ohio. I've seen about a half-dozen diesel blocks unzip like that, but never one that launched the engine out of the vehicle. That was a 16-liter Cat engine, so the launched portion weighed about a ton. The block unzipped at the crank centerline, and the crank and rods stayed in the crankcase lower half. Super stock diesel pullers typically throw a block away after 20 runs, but they don't all make that number.
