I recently ordered a kit from amazon because I needed a new carb. Mine was leaking all over and figured since they're so cheap I'll swap the whole thing. The kit came with a fuel filter and when I was trying to remove the fuel line to cut off some excess tubing I accidentally pulled off one half of the filter. There was no media or anything inside of it. Not sure how this "filter" is supposed to work. This pressure washer has never used a fuel filter before. Is it supposed to just collect large sediment via gravity or is the filter in this knockoff kit missing components such as a paper or screen element?

This is the kit I got:

See pics above. Mine has no media at all in it. In my case since the filter is positioned horizontally I can only assume that it is a simple gravity filter. I take it that the filter is supposed to have media in it.

Well that sucks. I don't recall seeing a metal screen fly out when I popped off half of it. I guess I'll order some others on eBay.

yep, that exactly what I just ordered. 5 pack of clear ones for $4. I'll throw one on when it arrives in three weeks. Lol.

They have a tiny wire mesh in them. Maybe your wire mesh flew off or was made on a Friday. You are not supposed to be able to break them apart that easy. Supposed to be glued together.

The white ones are 75 micron for systems with a fuel pump.
The red ones are 150 micron for gravity fed systems.

Most of these small engines dont have a fuel pump, I use the red ones most, and they work good.

they are cheap why not buy a single one from lowes, maybe better than chinese bulk stuff. look thru it before installing to check for the mesh

The genuine fuel filter for my 20 HP B&S twin looks like a small auto engine fuel filter. About 1" x 2" size. Definately NOT one of the off brand tiny disk filters. Ed

----------------

the OPD links above are messed up I think, both links - for the white and the red filtersabove say its for engines WITH a fuel pump/// somewthing wrong there.

another example of american importers not looking at what they are buying or maybe just that the OPD web site text is wrong. OPD bulk packs are 5 are labelled correctly I Think

I thought the red filters were for engines WITHOUT a fuel pump (gravity flow)

OP was referring to a push mower. Tractors have 'real'
fuel filters. The Fram G1 works great in tractor engines.
Bigger and cheaper too!

My 2¢

Yeah, this was really easy to break apart. I ordered some optically clear filters off ebay, I will be able to tell if they have wire mesh in them. Hopefully they will not leak or split apart as easy as the one I got in this kit. Maybe I should add some gas-resistant RTV to the new ones so I know for sure that they will not leak in the future.

Here's what the clear ones from China look like. I tried to pull one apart but it appears to be glued or plastic welded together.

They are. I have a whole bag of them I put on customer machines. No leaks yet and you can actually see when they are catching stuff.
