They are no more cardboard than cellulose media is a'paper".

Yes they are a fiber material, but in no way "cardboard" which would deteriorate rapidly if gotten wet by any fluid.

They look like A/C Delco E cores.. I have looked at them at Wallymart.. I remember years ago they were were made much better... I would have to see it cut open.
