Mavericks at Kentucky Day School about 2016-- great small venue, and the Mavericks have been great every time I've seen them.
Aerosmith, (now called) Hollywood Casino Amphitheater (about 1995) and Steely Dan (same venue) about 2016. The place--like a lot of similar places built in the eighties-- is getting a bit old in the tooth, but Aerosmith in the mid nineties were at their peak. Steely Dan was always on my bucket list and the backup musicians are constantly being renewed and always in top form. Donald [censored] always had the right amount of cynicism.
The Mob (which was Chicago's best horn band, not Chicago IMO)-- I love horns and they got this legendary Vegas show band together for the first time in three decades for the South Dakota Rock Hall of Fame in Sioux Falls about nine years ago. For a bunch of old timers who hadn't seen each other in a long, long time this was the best horn concert I'd ever seen. Sorry Tower of Power and Blood Sweat and Tears, they blew you away. Plus they brought in about eight local hornmen so that there were about twenty up on a not too big stage. Partial clips are available on YouTube and I have a DVD somewhere.
Kenny Loggins at the Family Arena about 2006. Didn't expect much because when I think of Kenny Loggins I think of trees and granola but he built every one of his hits (didn't realize there were so many) into one a unified whole which started slow, got rockier and ended with a great finale. Maybe not my favorite but the most pleasant surprise.
ps-- the lead singer for Steely Dan's last name was censored. That's a bit much. If there's a censor dial, tune it down.
Honorable mention: BoDeans, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Billy Joel, Eagles, Guess Who, Toto.
