Most of the prepaid carriers will not roam from the base network, and most do not offer out of country roaming. Metro PCS is just T-mobile with a bandwidth cap and no roaming. If you can live with those limitations you will be fine.
 
Depending on where you are in NY, a roaming less back seat ride on T-Mobiles network isn't gonna be a good time

If you must, make sure it's supporting Band 12 and the upcoming Band 66
 
Are you able to put a prepaid sim in your phone from them to "trial" their local reception over a month.

2nd and third rate carriers the challenge is getting signal outside of target areas.
 
I know it's hard to trust the coverage maps provided by these legalized liars. white collar crime
 
Owned by T-Mobile, which is what I have. Very happy with the service. I think just going directly with T-Mobile is a better deal.
