There you have it folks. An entire synthesis method is 'snake oil'.

Pennzoil and Quaker State products with "Pureplus technology." Also some Rotella products (5W-30 SN/CK-4 Multi-Vehicle for example)

Some Mobil 1 products (0W-40 is one for sure).

Everyone can ignore this.

And they still use it, btw.

And people complain about GHT

This begs a question from me. Is there an advantage to the GTL base stocks? I'm happy with how PP performs in my Tundra but I'm not sure it performs any different than the Mobil 1 I have used in it previously.

Yes, I, too, am in trouble with certified "snake oil" in my sump.

It’s another way to make Group 3 base. That’s all. Marketing makes it out to be the next best thing. With that said it is still a good product. Shell has gone all in with their GTL plant in Qatar so they need to recoup the countless billions poured into that complex.

Pure crud oil is pretty dirty with contaminants,
heavy minerals, and just plain dirt.
GTL is significantly cleaner to start with and the
end product and it's quality can be better controlled.

My 2¢
