Back in the early 70's our drag engine had a 8 qt. pan that we ran 1 qt. low. The pan had a windage tray and crank scraper that was made to fit each crank(you coundn't just throw it on or it would hit the counterbalance). Made the car faster.
This was on a 7600 rpm redline SBC.
