Sure, Ford made a big push for EFI first and wanted to bring a few things from Europe over like the Escort and the Taurus was groundbreaking.

The K-Car, as plasticky, cheap and monotonous/ubiquitous as it was is a good example of having a common platform to build cars off - GM tried doing the same and they just couldn't get it down for years. The Chrysler minivans were also innovative and again, everyone else struggled until the North American-specific Odyssey and the Sienna hit the market. Say all you want about Mopar's FWD 4-speed automatic tranny, but it was the first attempt from Detroit to be competitive against the Japanese who rolled out electronic controls in their transmissions in the early 1980s.

Not quite, how many dodge intrepids/Chrysler Concordes do you see driving around?

Bwaha, I had one with the 3.5l V6.

Around 130k it started to simultaneously develop transmission, head gasket (coolant leak) and steering issues. Then, before I could even plan to address any of these, one of the radiator fans quit and left me in the emergency lane with steam coming from under the hood. This was summer 2006.

I think all the cars in my signature would go 200,000 miles easily. The 2014 Jeep has about 14 recalls on it so far. I am currently waiting for the recall to get a new alternator because they are prone to starting on fire. I worry more about the Jeep than the other vehicles. I have the most faith in the Honda Civic then the Ford F-150 then the Jeep and I put the Corvette last because they always seem to have little problems but the engines last forever.
