Nice find! Those pics aren't bad at all.

I test drove that engine when it was brand new, and to me it had a really good feel. I ended up with an '86, carbuerated, as we couldn't afford new at the time. One thing I noted about that engine - if I followed the shift light and kept the revs down, that car delivered fantastic mpg. Ours was a wagon. Record interstate mpg was for me, get this, 38 mpg. Of course, back then the speed limit was 55, but still.

This Xr3i with 105 Hp and Bosch K-jet injection does about 30-35 Mpg, bearable since it runs on 95 RON just fine, prices have gone up a lot, i'm paying 6$ / Gallon for 95, and 6.7$ for 98 RON.

The other day it kind of overheated, got up to just below the red on the gauge, i got home fine with the heater on full blast and opened the expansion tank cap when i got home and it puked about 1-2 liters of coolant on the garage floor, it turns out the cables going to both terminals of the temperature sensor that controls the fan were corroded, all fixed now!

my 86 ate fan control sensors/switches. Eventually, I put a big red pull-knob (beetle hazards switch) in the dash as a backup. When the bearings in the fan motor started to tire, I flipped the motor upside down and it kept on doing its thing!
