down half quart was still full
This oil was run for over 9 months that included the entire winter, some of which was brutal. The truck does many trips of 2-7 miles (over the course of the oci). Some days it accumulates 40-70 miles over a few hours time. No highway cruising. Sometimes we go into Binghamton or Syracuse and do some city driving, but it's an insignificant portion of the miles.
No towing, but some hauling stuff in the bed. From a 750 pound ATV to a load of scrap metal (1700 lbs), but like the city driving, it's a small portion of the miles. It's driven gently, mostly below 1700 rpm. Maintaining 55 mph up 13% grades (even loaded with the ATV) requires a drop to 4th gear at 2300 rpm and that's as close to an Italian tune-up as it ever gets. No redline runs for me.
I replaced this oil with 5W-30 but as you can see, this oil had already thickened into a 30. And yup...the TAN over took the TBN.
I'm going to start using Milton Cat for all of my samples. The base price is $18.99 and the TBN/TAN are $8.xx each. I can drop samples at one of their locations and their parts delivery truck picks them up when making the rounds, and gets them to the lab. It's less stressful than mailing.
