Which 20w50 oil has the highest film strength?
Does 20w50 have higher film strength than 0w40?
Is 0w40 Mobil 1 safe to use in my 1980 Porsche 924 which calls for 20w50?

Is it air cooled? I’m guessing so, and if it is I would definitely stick to a 50 weight oil. Especially in a car that is designed to be driven spiritedly.

A 924 is a water-cooled VW/Audi engine with a Porsche badge. Switching from a 50w to a 40w should be no problem.

You could go ask 540Rat....

Not 0w40, many oil manu's use that weight to be closer to a 5w30 then anything. I'm not saying it isn't safe to use in your car, just a comment on film strength.

I'd use M1 5W-50 or 15W-50 if it were mine and I put it through it's paces. Actually, I'd probably just use a Conventional HDEO like Delo or Delvac 15W-40.

Here you go.

Yup, Silver Bottle VR-1 for street driven engines. It is the good stuff when it comes to these heavier grades. Well known and proven at tracks all across the country every weekend

Mobil 1 15W-50 would be perfect for this application. It’s a very robust oil. It’s essentially a synthetic 20W-50. Same thickness, better cold properties.

Ignore the thin oil guys on this one! Run the VR1 20W50!! That old motor was designed for it and needs the additives that are exempt from todays junk PCMO's

Why in the world are some of you recommending a 20w50 racing oil for a 110 hp VW 4 cylinder?

Any good conventional oil from 40 to 50 wt would be perfect in this. I'm guessing most here don't know what a 924 is.

OP if you already have the 0w40 us it. If you don't , buy a cheap conventional 40-50 wt and run it.

Curious as to where you buy this Snagglefoot??

Our 2 local Walmarts do not carry it, I'll check the Edmonton/Calgary stores next time I'm there.
Thanks.
