The dealers are forever telling us to run their 'genuine' brand oils but we choose to use 3rd party oils. To make sure we didn't compromise our warranties we asked our supplier for their specs and product breakdown. We asked the tractor dealer too but they didn't want to comply so we had their oil tested ourselves. The 3rd party oil was superior in some areas (VI and TBN), similar in others (zinc and phosphorous) but about 15% lower in calcium and had no magnesium (OEM had 120 ppm). Our supplier said that as these were primarily diesel engine detergent/dispersant additives they were not so important in a tractor transmission. Can anyone suggest why the OEM oil would have det/dis levels similar to our diesel engine oil?

They probably buy a diesel oil from the cheapest supplier and bottle it with their name on it and charge full List price for it. Same with Honda,Yamaha etc motorcycle oils. Nothing special in those but you pay much more for them because there is a motorcycle on the sticker.
"We asked the tractor dealer too but they didn't want to comply"- I would have responded to this by stating to them that we will not be purchasing their oil for any reason due to their lack of cooperation or assistance.
Tractor transmission (which is typically without a circulating oil pump) does not require presence of detergent/dispersants.
Depending on transmission duty cycle and load, a cheap and easily available HDEO of appropriate viscosity grade is more than adequate to replace a dedicated transmission oil,which likely is pricy and of lower availability, IMHO.
