So we all remember DTD throwing a $60 spiff on any set of tires bought with their synchronicity card. Even a $200 set of 14 inchers that wind up being $60-100 after all rebates stacked up.

So, aha, they changed the rules when we weren't looking! Now it's only $30 for the cheap sets.

Coming soon, Memorial Day, and a sale I bet isn't as outrageously awesome as it previously was.

They actually switched the extra rebates a while ago, if I remember right. Makes sense though.. some of those cheap tires are running at a pretty thin margin. Makes the 'better' rank tires seem that much more worthwhile.

That's possibly the worst DTD rebate I have ever seen. Although May isn't really one of their big discounted sale.

Thanks for the news.

With Memorial Day upon us (May 28th this year), when can I go to their site and expect to see any discounts displayed?

What I want is a foursome of Cooper CS5 Touring (or whatever CS5 is "the best one") in 205-55-16.

My set of Goodyear RS-A is aging and I have no trouble mounting them and having them balanced.

$300 is too much for you? The CS5's are on Amazon for $92.24, Prime shipped. $70 rebate from Cooper on a set of 4. Pretty darn good for a set of quality, name brand tires in that size.

What major sales have they been 30$ for now?

I'm not sure you are right... They were still $60 "extra" for the DT credit card last year in december when I purchased my winter set.

The promo details say they end May 20, so there could be a "better" sale for Memorial Day. But I don't think the credit card part's going to get any better. Best we can hope for is a trifecta of the manufacturer's rebate, 25-75-100 good-better-best promo, then the $30 credit card lameness.

Though my "wife" could open a cc in her name and get the $50 new-user rebate. I'm just too lazy to "churn" and if I were to, I'd do a better card than this one.

Inflation by another name. Companies are in business to make money. Nobody "deserves" a special sale.

I'd suspect they reduce rebates in lieu or raising prices.

In my observation and IME, DT/DTD rebates have varied over the years between promo periods ie., some better than others. Even outside the 'major' promo periods there have been different promotions. On the latter, one that comes to mind was a relatively recent excellent DTD promotion that would have allowed me to get a set of GY Assurance Comfortred Touring for a ridiculously low price. I posted/noted it on the tire board at the time.

Quite frankly I don't remember DT/DTD Care One CC rebate 'always' being $60. I remember it being $30 sometimes most notably out of a major promotional period like currently.

That said, perhaps the Mem Day DTD/DT CC rebate won't be as good as the last promo period, not being clairvoyant can't say. However even if it isn't, based on past experience doesn't mean it will always be that way. Or if it is, c'est la vie. Things change, AAP codes perfect example.

Bottom line, if DTD no longer lowest price with or without rebates, shop elsewhere. Simple. Or if the change in CC rebate a matter of principle, shop elsewhere.

The great thing is we can buy anywhere we want to. I bought from DT in our previous town for the great service, not the absolute cheapest price. Fact is I don't time buying with big sales. Need tires when I need them. Hope the DT here is as good.

Walmart is the same way. I would have charged you nearly $100 for that. National chains aren't there for bringing in tires. They want to sell tires.

DTD is Discount Tire Direct, the online only store FYI.

That doesn't sound right, did the guy break it down for you or just tell you the total?

Did you happen to notice how long it took the mom & pop shop to do your tires for the $46?
