We were on Oahu 2 months ago. Took a day trip to the Big Island to see the Kilauea volcano, but it rained the whole day, so we did not see much, other than some fog combined with smoke from the crater.

Due to plate tectonics , Oahu was formed by the same magma vent millions of years ago. Oahu is safe from Pele's wrath. Now the ocean erodes it.

Hawaii was formed by hot spots on the plates. It's commonly known. No surprise this was going to happen, everybody knows it, just a question of when. I can imagine what the acid rain is going to be like....probably a pH around 3-4.

I forget from geology what percentage of the earth is still molten?
IIRC the core is SOLID moon sized NiFe magnet!
