I need some replacement socket holders and am looking for suggestions. I started with a simple Craftsman "mechanics" set that came with 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" ratchets, various standard and metric sockets, extensions, etc, etc. It works just fine for me. Problem is, the case never worked well at holding the pieces in place !! After a few years, if you'd pick up the case and hold it vertical (just like it's supposed to be carried), all of the [censored] pieces would fall to the bottom !!

I ended up getting a tool "box" that holds almost all of the stuff I use frequently and in order to hold the sockets, I tried the socket rails that Harbor Freight sells. For the cost, I won't complain, but they have to go now.... I've already snapped too many of the socket holders 'clips' just when simply removing sockets. They're sharp when they're broken too !

What do others use ? I have to say up-front, cost IS a factor. I need holders for 15-20 1/4" sockets, 15-20 1/2" sockets, and 20+ 3/8" sockets. I won't spend $50 on holders. Not interested in the ones that have the size labeled on them either - my OCD will drive me crazy if I have missing ones !

Some I've seen are these:

I've got a few variations of these...

I've had some of them for twenty years. Easiest one handed socket grabbing.

That is a good price on the one at Jegs, it is the same style that I use. I leave mine stuck on the open lid of my tool cart and the sockets don't fall out.

The above is my favorite for 1/4" drive sockets! I've had several of the Plastic Peg style & I break them so often that they are not worth buying.

I have one of these to hold most of my everyday 3/8" sockets in the top of my roll cart..... HERE

Yes I had to switch all the 1/4" & 1/2" clips to 3/8", But I guess not everyone has 60 3/8" sockets.....
It's heavy enough when loaded that the clips don't hinder the ability to remove sockets, So you may be able to put all your sockets on it.

I use the Snap-On magnetics for my smaller sockets; for the bigger ones I use the Harbor Freight like was mentioned. I'm gentle with them so I don't break them LOL. but they're pretty chrappy.

I went to Harbor Freight and looked at their options and didn't like either. They didn't have metric holders in the type that the holders slide along the 'rail' and the standard ones they had were a teal color and were ugly ! I know, I know, that shouldn't matter but it just didn't look right to me.... The other holder they had were very large and for the number I'd need, they wouldn't fit in my toolbox. I use a carry-able (but heavy when loaded with tools !) box, not a tool 'chest'.

I'm digging the magnetic socket holders, i'm going to have to get some of those. Not cheap to get for all drives in sae and metric. But i like that.

Those are what I ended up buying. They are very nice, especially the twist-to-lock feature. I remember reading about it before buying them but once they arrived, I forgot about this and proceeded to 'force' my sockets on each peg before I remembered !

I got these today, they are great. Nice an organized. Sits in the tool chest and you can pick up to whole thing without sockets falling out. The whole tray also magnetically stays put in the drawer, even through the drawer pad.

I paid about $55 or so for all three in metric. Not sure if i'm going to do the sae drawer, I don't use them much anymore.
