My 2002 jeep 4.0 158,000+ miles is pinging more then it use to. Would go as far as saying excessive. I think the issue maybe in the last year wife now works in town 1 mile round trip. I do take it for run once a week on a 50 mile trip but speed is not over 50. I think I am getting carbon buildup. Tried gumout regane no help. Years ago in my repair shop i would do slow slow water drip down the carburetor (remember them) and it would work. The jeep has port injection i believe. Any issues dripping down the Throttle Body. Any better ideas?? Thank you

Use a higher octane gas.

Tried that first. Very minimal change.

Some weekend, pull the plugs and put 2oz (~70ml) of sea foam in each hole.
Start the plugs threaded in, but not tight. Don't connect the ignition coils.

Crank the engine for 5 seconds to splash it around in there, then let sit for 24 hours.
Tighten the plugs, connect the coils, then take it out for a little highway cruise.

From this point forward, add 2-cycle oil to the gas at 1oz per every 5 gallons (1:640)

There could also be water in the tank - I had an older vehicle that pinged until I put some HEET or similar to clean it out.

I've heard of this too...
Isn't it with tcw3 2 cycle oil?

Just a thought if your burning oil could be valve stem seals.

It's for some interesting reading, I've read most of it before, I just can't make myself to believe putting more oil in your combustion chamber would make it run cleaner.

Linctex I will try the sea foam. Interesting about 2-cycle oil to the gas at 1oz per every 5 gallons. Thank you for the links. I Appreciate that.

Believe it or not even at the mileage the engine burns no oil. Never had a vehicle that did not use some oil between oci.

TCW-III is ashless, so leaves no deposits.

It has some type of "carbon remover" in it to help keep exhaust ports clean on 2-cycle engines.

1:640 is a pretty lean ratio

Inline Six is pretty easy to do piston soak. I like Break Free gun solvent overnight. It's made to help clean carbon from rifle bores. Once it has softened the carbon, it should burn off on a good highway run laugh

Can you take 1* or 2* of timing out of it? They may have switched to summer gas formula and the engine is reacting ...

Great. After some reading I may get back on the tcw 3 wagon.
