LL-01 is Probably not needed if only 6K-7K OCI's
My oil changes are more dictated by time (once a year) than mileage. When I do drive it, the oil temp almost always gets up to operating temp so no short trips (bad for oil). I like the LL-01 because I know it will be good for my engine. I have no doubt that there are tons of non LL-01s that will do as good or maybe even better of a job, but I am with mightymoosetech in that I'd rather not risk it.
To those of accusing me of being a troll, get over yourself. This is an oil forum, not 4chan, reddit, youtube, twitter, instagram, twitch, Facebook, etc. Those who say I am a troll are like right-wingers who call people they disagree with 'cu*ks' or the left-wingers who call everyone they disagree with 'nazis.' You can throw 'troll' around, but it doesn't make your case anymore valid. The username is not a long term username as I don't plan on posting but once a year if that. Let's keep this thread on facts, not name calling.
I also see that Amsoil is somewhat controversial. I have a bias against them because of a post on an M3 forum I read. This M3 owner tested a bunch of oils and talked to engineers at those companies, including Amsoil. The Amsoil engineer basically said that their 0w-30 was magic and "5 years ahead of the competition." When the M3 owner asked about track use, The Amsoil engineer said to use 0w-30 over 10w-60 (the recommended oil) because the engine clearances were too tight and BMW was wrong in recommending 10w-60. It just seemed fishy, a bit like the Amsoil engineer was selling snake oil.
