I was just looking up some oil on WM's website and came across M1 oils. WM sells so many different M1 oils , how do you decide which one to use?
"IF" you owned my truck, and wanted to use M1 oil in the engine, which M1 oil-weight would you use? This engine can use 0W20, 0W30, 0W40, 5W20, and 5W30 oil. It doesn't burn or leak any oil.
I'm asking this because if I were to do my next OCI using M1 (I have Castrol 0W40 on deck for my next OCI) I would most likely choose a HM 5W30 with a FU/MC oil filter, run to 5K-7.5K miles.

I see you are using the oil filter for on OCI only. With the Ultra being good for 15K miles, you could run that filter for two OCI.

Because I have a idea of your maintenance history on your truck. M-1 5W30. But you could get away with any modern spec PCMO.

I don't want to offend you, but you must not know me very well when it comes to me and oil filters. I NEVER use an oil filter for more than 1 OCI. smile

Nothing wrong with the HM 5w30 you want to use. I've always liked their 0w30 though smile

That, and using an oil filter more than once makes about as much sense as a submarine with a screen door!

I respect the opions of those who recommend the HM oils, but I am holding off until I see an oil leak. Regular M1 5-30 sounds good to me, maybe 5-40 for the summer or the 0-40 you have already planned. I have 5-40 on deck for this summer.

So, you are saying me using a Tough Guard filter for 3 5k ocis makes no sense smile

Valvoline.

Ok, fine, M1 5-30 regular, non-HM, non-extended, non-annual.
