Anyone ever fitted an oil sump expansion tank to their aircooled engine?more oil capacity equals more cooling potential ..anyone any experiences with doing this pros and cons..considering it myself but seem to be doing ok with just standard oil sump..old addage if its not broke dont try and fix it springs to mind

The air cooled VWs had a good oil cooler in the fan driven air flow. Perhaps you can buy a larger of more efficient heat exchanger for that purpose. I believe their are kits to add a canister style oil filter. That would add capacity.

Yeah a few parameters change ..something to consider..plus having to buy more oil

I put a gene berg on mine years ago. Yes, it has its bennies and it’s downsides. In the summer it’s nice, more oil keeps things alittle cooler, not to mention sharp corners at higher speeds. The downside being longer warmup (since most people remove the thermostat thinking it doesn’t need to be there because thier lawnmower doesn’t have one). I ran 10w-30 year round,
