Who remembers the good old days of air shocks?

Why are these rigged to run when the ignition is off? Always wondered. I could see it being cool packing the town car with all that Luis Vittern luggage without it sagging but it could also "right itself" in a few seconds.

I had em in my 69 Charger when I was young just to give about an inch of clearance to the huge set of N50-15s I managed to stuff into the wheelwells. I sprayed them flat black so no one would know they were air shocks.

Put a set on my '67 Impala to get the rear end up (and look cool), only to find that if I aired them all the way up the ride was hard as a brick.

How many had "Hi-Jackers" decals? Maybe the most iconic decal (after STP) of the era.

Had a JC Whitney air bag kit stuffed into the rear coil springs of my 1984 Ford EXP back in the late 80s. It would lift the arse-end up ~6" and make the car ride like a shopping cart.

Well, in high school the Hacker brothers built a Nova - did not take long before their decals got modified into “Hackers”

Never had them ~ but did have airbags on my old PowerWagon to help pull a travel trailer …

Heh heh only car I had with air shocks was a '73 Gran Torino Squire wagon. When the rear end was torn out in a bad washout, I replaced the shocks with reg'lar Monroes. Nice car , faux wood and all. But the back of the car was disappearing.

Towed boats with two Mercury station wagons, both had, and needed, air shocks. On the'65 wagon (390 ci) I had them installed with the valve hidden in the rear bumper, manual operation. The later model Colony Park had factory air shocks with compressor, full factory towing package, four wheel disc brakes, and a 460 V-8. It was back when you could actually special order such a setup in the mid 80's.
