Best vehicle I ever owned

For a truck: 2004 GMC Savana 3500 van. Sold at just over 500k miles with a smooth quiet engine that didn't use oil, drip, or smoke. A factory freak.

For a car: 2006 Chrysler 300C SRT8. After 100k HARD miles, 200 drag strip passes, and numerous road course track day events still smooth, very quiet, and competitive with most luxury sedans. I may never sell it.

Yeah ok, I'm gonna get laughed at here but that's ok. 1977 Ford LTD Landau 2 door coupe. That car was bullet proof from bumper to bumper. Best truck was a 1992 Chevy Silverado 1500. Just an amazing truck with no issue's.

1995 Honda Accord
It was what my dad gave me when I got my license. It had many miles on it when I got it.

I love telling other people that the best car in my entire family was made in the USA when I hear some rant about where things are made.

For my mom, it was different. Her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee served her well for 9 years and 155,000 miles. Then a major electrical failure happened and the car wasn't worth repairing.

In terms of reliability, I'd say my 1990 Pontiac Sunbird. I bought it new for $9,000 and ran it for about 110,000 miles before selling it, in perfect condition. It never had a single problem. Not even a burned out light bulb. It had a neat little Brazilian made GM OHC 2.0L 4 cylinder that was smooth and easily attained 40mpg on the highway, with its 5 speed manual. At 80mph, it still got 36mpg. It was great in the snow, too. It was a comfortable little car.

I've owned more than a dozen cars in my lifetime but the best one which is currently my only transportation is Toyota 4Runner SR5 1996. Bought it new with 205k miles at the present. There's simply no car that could match the durability, reliability and the go-anywhere like a 4x4 Toy. However one lesson learned, the wrong tires can make or break any car's road handling prowess. So pick the right tires but they are not always the same as the ones which get highest rating. So I reckon in my lifetime I'm all set because this compact truck got at least another 500k miles left which is way beyond my lifetime.

1988 Subaru GL
1999 Subaru Impreza
2005 Mazda3 Hatch
2013 Kia Rio Hatch
????

Probably a tossup between the Impreza and the Rio. Once Peter Schreyer left Audi and got to Kia he revamped their entire lineup. There is some VW Golf in this thing and Mini Cooper layout inside that makes it just a blast to bomb around the city with, plus it has all the bells and whistles new cars have these days. But the Impreza holds a special place in my heart. Great New England car and that thing got me through major life events and never let me down, plus handled well with AWD no matter the conditions. I would have gotten another Impreza after the Mazda if they hadn't miffed the new engine design, but the new Subaru global platform (starting in 2017) looks like two steps forward instead of one step back...so we'll see what comes next!

My early '99 F250 in my sig. ultra reliable 7.3 Powerstroke, plus the truck was free. Its bone stock, except for a muffler and cat delete, I change the oil, filters and all fluids regularly, and just drive it. The frame rust will be its demise (rare for down here but my cousin used it to fish near the gulf and always had saltwater draining out the bed) but until then I'll just keep spraying Fluid film on the rusty spots and keep on trucking. When the frame does give out i'll pull the motor and tranny out and put it in another F250

I bought a new Mk4 Golf TDI (ALH engine) in August 2003. I thought I would keep it for 6 or 7 years, then replace it. But almost 15 years and 693,000 miles later it is running better than new, and with one of the much-discredited $75 paint jobs it actually looks pretty good too -- from a distance.

I liked it so much that I picked up one just like it about three years ago, with only 120k miles. Prettier in every respect, but it only gets driven about 5k miles a year.

Unless a tree falls on both of them at the same time, all of my transportation needs are set for the next 10 or 15 years.

The most ridiculous statement I've read to date on this forum.....Though "dblshock" posts outlandish stuff like this as well.

Thanks for the laugh!

In 2008 purchased a 2005 Lexus ES330 for <$16k. Going on ten years of ownership and has only needed an alternator outside of normal maintenance. At 145k miles now and going strong. Not a terribly exciting car, but rock-solid reliable and comfortable. Probably the most economical car I have owned.

In 2001 I purchased a new Camry and I drove it for 13 years and just had to change the oil and tires, I was rarely at a mechanic!!! Wonder if they still are rock solid today as they were before?

I dunno. It's like trying to decide which of your cats or dogs was the best. Maybe one will be a super standout, but more than likely A had great qualities 1 and 2, while B had great qualities 2 and 3, and so forth.

I love the 2011 Regal despite its fairly low power, but its predecessor, the '03 Park Avenue, was superb in its own serene way, and the '86 Mercedes 420SEL was (despite part$ co$t$) fantastic as well. I will say that the Buicks have had some of the lowest cost-to-operate figures I've ever known.

It did need 4 wheel bearings because some cheese head must have run out at the factory and none were there. Even my Honda Civics couldn't pull that one off. It was cheaply made and tinny though but just kept going and I sold it to another guy as a beater.

Now that is amazing Driz. I use to repair them along with Pinto's/Chevrolet Vega/Dodge colts and other Marvel's that came out of Detroit.

Dodge Colt was Japanese; Cavaliers really can't be compared with the Vega. That's like comparing a 1976 Datsun B210 with something decent Nissan makes. Everything was junk back then except for some German cars and larger American cars.

I have a '99 Cavelier that I had a bucket of paint spill in the back floorboard. I was so disgusted that after cleaning it the best I could, I left it in the yard for several months since I had a new truck I was driving any way. (Didn't want paint near precious new truck) when I came to my senses, the car cranked on the first try despite sitting idle for many months. I did some research and got the inside almost back to normal with either Goof Off or Goo be Gone. This car is ugly but somehow indistructible. It was also in a major hail storm where almost every car in town had all glass busted out. My Cavilac managed to survive with only a few hundred dings and liability insurance. Since I could only get a few hundred dollars for it, I've kept it as a backup. It's come in handy several times when my "good" vehicles were out of commission.

That is because you run M1 !!!

My '89 Ford Escort Pony.

I bought it in 1996 from my cousin for $2,000 and proceeded to drive it ... a lot. Other than a bungled CV joint (which the Ford dealer did), it was trouble-free for 65,000 miles and 3 years.

Eventually I wanted air conditioning, so I bought a newer one (a '98 sedan) and gave the '89 to my brother. Shortly thereafter, he got hit by a semi on a rainy night in Indianapolis. He walked away, but the car was a goner.

If I could find another, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
