2017 F150 3.5 Ecoboost 3790 miles 10W30 Penzoil Platinum
1st sample is Factory fill
2nd sample is dealer bulk with 3000 miles of towing 7000lbs
3rd sample is 10W30 Penzoil Platinum
Oil in the sump now is Magnatec 10W30 which I will run for 5000 miles. Nice to see the fuel is lower in this sample even with quite a few remote starts, but no towing to speek of.
I gave Blackstone the wrong milage on this oil, my bad, truck milage is correct but oil time in the sump is wrong on 3rd sample only. I changed it early to get back on a 5000 mile change interval.

I'd keep doing what your doing.
I'd go to a 5000 mile run and keep her there...
#s are okay and will probably get better...

On your second sample with the fuel dilution...did you run the motor before the drain? And if so, for how long?

The reason I ask is I had fuel for the first time in my last sample and it’s the only time I did a 5 min “driveway idle” before putting it up on the ramps for the drain. Normally I run the motor around town so it’s nice and hot at the normal operating temps. Curious if you did the same thing...

At around 4.7% NOACK, PPPP 10W-30 is a good choice for a high-output, turbocharged engine. It’s what I’m using in my WRX. Very stable oil at high temps.

5000 mile OCI would be easy on any of the stated oils.
I would personally consider extending OCI further.

It looks good. You could run it 6K without any worries and still have a nice safety margin should some event arise that delays an oil change.

Last of the break-in coming down.
All looks as expected.
Follow the IOLM; changing it early isn't going to help the engine appreciably.

Stick with that 10w30 there seems to be enough evidence now that it shears down less then 5w30 and it will be interesting to see how well the Castrol Magnatec 10w30 holds up my bet is quite good.

That is exactly what happened on the 2nd sample, due to life issues I went longer on that oil change and did a driveway warm up which I didnt want to do but was happy I had time to change it. All these samples were pulled out of the sump through the dipstick right before the change. Thanks for asking.

Turbo + lots of calcium + load = Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI). I remember a thread that showed that less than 1500 ppm of calcium is what you want for any turbo engine.
3000 ppm increase LSPI by a factor of 6x and more.

Calcium is used as an oil additive. Nothing to see here - http://www.pqiamerica.com/calcium.htm. I can't find a VOA for the 10w30, but here is one for the 5w30 Ultra Platinum - http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/3694878/1

The OPer obviously hasn't blown any pistons with the oil he has been using, but it has been well known for some time now that high calcium in oil can lead to more LSPI events in DIT engines. Check out the first chart...

http://www.infineuminsight.com/insight/nov-2016/quenching-low-speed-pre-ignition

Recent Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 dexos1 Gen 2 VOAs have shown reduced levels of calcium, PUP has not been reformulated for the new standards and I wonder if SOPUS still views this as a mainstream oil.
