I'm back,

I fixed the coolant issue, it was a bad coolant cap,but now a biggie. Yesterday out of the blue I started the car turned it off then turned it back on. It started surging, low idle 5-600 rpm sometimes wouldn't rev above 4000 rpm. At first my dad thought a bad vacuum hose. I sprayed starter fluid all over, with no increase in rpm. I've heard the crank or throttle position sensor can go bad. All help would be great.

I just worked on a '97 last week - wouldn't idle at all. As soon as I started spraying carb cleaner down into the throttle body it started getting better, so I removed and cleaned it thoroughly which fixed it. Commsnded idle is very low, barely above 600 when warm.

Could be your (IAC) idle air control valve. Here's a video on how to check it. (It may help) also you could try cleaning your maf sensor. Good Luck.

When you put it in gear and are moving, does it drive OK?

"won't rev over 4000 rpm" is not the IACV.
