Just wondering if reusing your old drain plug washer has any effect on torque values. I’m guessing it’s very minimal but something to think about

I have re-used old drain plug washer on a few occasions. I don't recommend it but if I must do it, I won't lose sleep over it either. Assuming my torque wrench is calibrated spot on, then I might just put another lb-ft more than what's called for. As long as I don't see any drips of oil from the drain plug, I'll call it a day.

I've used the same combo wrench for years on my drain plugs so I have a good feel for when everything is tight enough. I reused a crush washer once and it caused a leak. I had to go back and snug up the plug an extra 1/16th of a turn to stop the leak. A new crush washer wouldn't have needed that extra snugging up.

The torque spec is based on not stripping the threads. If it leaks when properly torqued, you need a new washer.

When I have reused them I just flip them around. When you have to pry them off the plug threads then I change them.

I've reused them. Never used a torque wrench. Just get it good and snug.

I have never replaced my washers....ever. And I use my arm for my calibrated torque wrench. Never have had a leak.

Same here... still serviceable = still in service!

I have never "torqued" an automotive drain plug in my life.

I know when to stop - most jiffy shops stops when it's about 3% away from stripping the threads out!

Flip the washer around... or if its copper, heat it (dull red glow) and let it cool slowly. I always replace them (have a huge assortment), but for the odd size I don't have and in a pinch... I'll try and reuse.
