A friend of mine is planning to get married, tight on budget and money($3k-$4k).

Was exchanging ideas and thought to ask around and see what do you have to say in terms of places, outdoor(park, winery, etc..) vs indoor or anything of that sort?

Thank you

Get married on the proverbial courthouse steps, then stay in comped room in Atlantic City casino hotel for honeymoon. Doesn't get much cheaper than that. Yes, I know for a fact someone who did this.

How many estimated persons attending?
Age group?
Desired time period? (some places may be booked for 6months in advance)

Yep, this.. It's what my wife and I did. Little Chapel of the Flowers is inexpensive, offers some decent options, and can even stream it out over the internet if you have friends and family that can't/won't go to Vegas.

Plus, there's tons to do after the wedding ceremony is over.

I'm surprised you haven't gotten hoards of replies stating that spending any money on a wedding is just stupid...

Surely a fun experience and adventure

Tell him not to get sucked into doing what other people want, tell him to do what he wants, even if it's getting married at Waffle House.

Of the weddings I've been to, the smaller, more casual ones seemed way more fun than the big blowouts.

We did a courthouse wedding. $25. Titanium Rings from Amazon $50. Done.

My brother had his on a cruise ship. Everyone pays their own.

haha, assuming your friend is the Groom, you have pretty much zero say.
Save your brainpower for something else.

Your job is to show up and make sure your friend the Groom shows up or whatever he needs you to do. The wedding planning and choices customarily falls to the Bride's prerogative.

The only time where you should speak up is if YOU have something to offer such as YOUR house/backyard/venue or other party hookup that you wish to offer it up to them for FREE as a no-strings gift

With that budget, a big wedding's out. Having been in a wedding or two myself, a small private affair is better than "the big show"...the "show" is for everyone else. Given the choice, I'd pay for a courthouse wedding and spend the rest of the budget on a nice vacation somewhere.

If the weather goes sideways budget weddings outdoors can be miserable. A lot of money burned up with guests not completely happy.

My only advice is outdoors is cheap but risky in my findings. My sisters wedding was a damp 47F day in may in a unheated barn. Guests wearing jackets and not a lot of dancing etc. all because my sister did not want to pay the $400 for high volume heaters for rent.

hey! My Best Buddy just got married this past valentines(also his birthday), and he had just as much input as is Boyfriend/ now Husband...

after...13...14 years together, one day they just one turned to the other, said, "Hey, you wanna go get married?" and they did. they went out to the Conservatory, and got Hitched.

didn't tell anyone for a few days.. and when they did, everyone's reaction was wait...what...

they do plan on having a celebration with family & friends this summer, when his mom is back visiting from Alaska, if we're lucky it will be before his brother gets deployed to Korea....
