It's a good datapoint, and I'm 100% convinced the modern crop of direct injected, high boost engines need sufficient viscosity for long life, regardless of brand. The viscosity loss is being seen on other similar engines/brands, including the new Honda 1.5L turbo.
EDIT: I'm running 10W-30 M1 EP in my 2011 Ecoboost, and the oil is clearly not up to the task by 5000 miles.
Remarkably, some ecoboost owners are amazed that their engines use no oil what so ever, over oil change intervals well beyond the recommended interval. What they fail to realize is that a good portion of what is in the sump, is simply the less volatile components of gasoline.
