Been looking for a suitable transmission fluid for my Smart for a while...

One weakness of these cars is the shifting,
an automated manual transmission that shifts terribly...

Specification is Bot-328, which is GL-4, 75W-90...

I am considering giving Mobil 1 Delvac 50 a try, itís a 90 weight gear oil...

Opinions?

I'd go with some RedLine MTL or their 75W90, great lubes!

Redline MT-90 (75W90) has the BOT-328 cert.

Delvac 50
Viscosity 40C 132 Cst
100C 17.5

Bot 328
40C 76
100C 15.09

Redline

100C 15.6

Am I reading this right?
Looks like the Delvac is thicker?

Ravenol 75W-80 shifted great in my Golf, which also specified a GL-4 lube.

Redline has hard really lousy shifting qualities in some Euro units in cold weather, its the worst fluid I have used to date, it was so bad I had to drain it out after 2 cold mornings.
I used Pentosin MTF2 it is so much better in VW units that specs 75w-90 GL4, going on year 3 year round use with zero noise or issues, it shifts smooth at -20f and 100f.

You can get the Castrol cheap here but check the site as I never used it, the Castrol is available at MB dealers also but like Pentosin its pricey.

Look at [email protected]*C, Delvac is thickest among the three.......
which is good for components protection and suitable for tropical climate like mine , but .....
shifting during cold could be notchy in your winter ambients though, IDK.
Redline is the safe bet for your ambients.

Pentosin MTF2 has a viscosity of 7.7 [email protected] about the same as most DexronIII/Mercon ATF fluids and not even close to a 75W90 MTF which averages about 14.5 [email protected]

If you are having shiftability problems, I would recommend the Redline MT-85 which is a 12.0cSt oil and has the same AW additive package as their 75W90.

The Mobil 1 Delvac 50 is going to be too thick in cold weather and is meant for HD (truck) service for API service MT-1 classifications.
