I drove down this hill today. It’s just east of Radium, BC, Canada. This sign was at the brake check pull-off so the truckers could work on their strategy. At the bottom was a pedestrian walk way. Go figure.

There were several sections of 6-8 degree slopes, one 10 degree slope, two runaway lanes, plus several major turns over a length of 11 km, (6.6 miles) Works wonders for your mpg indicator.

Turn into that runaway lane and see what happens

I have driven a moving truck and had to use those escape lanes. But not on that partucular road.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of realising you are fighting a loosing battle with your brakes.
Fortunately I realised where things were going and did not have to hot the gravel. But if I had held off I surly would have been in deep at the next run off (requiring a tow truck)

Heh, that's an everyday drive out of town for me. The only way out of town besides a toll road are three steep mountain passes. Quite comical to see out of towners or rookie truck drivers go up and down it.
