Just a few questions ..... Does excessive idling cause oil to get diluted with fuel? And second why do some direct injected engines have a tendency to dilute the oil with fuel? What about a DI motor makes it prone to fuel dilution?

1. Yes, in almost all cases. Insufficient oil temps prevent the fuel from evaporating and getting sucked out through PCV. 2. Injection pressures can cause fuel to leak past the combustion rings and contaminate the oil.

Interestingly, even on high diluters like the Ford EcoBoost engines, there have not been the catastrophic results predicted by people who are shouting from the rooftops about fuel dilution. It appears if you go by the OLM or sensible OCIs, fuel dilution is not the death sentence that old logic would have you believe.

Fuel dilution is just an active form of "Solvent Refining" like good old Grp I oils. If there is not much to create new oils from the initial fill (?), there should not be to much issue other than grade/viscosity loss due to thinning ... And we all know that 0W-20's work for many engines, so starting with a 40 should give you a lot of headroom laugh

Formerly in marine engineering. In an earlier life I owned my own petroleum tank truck, and hauled for the majors and independent's.
