For those who do not know of the history of the USS Juneau and the five Sullivan brothers this will be an eye opener.

This loss of 5 brothers was the start of the military policy of not allowing close family relatives to be stationed together in combat zones or on ships.

The Fighting Sullivans. Saw it a few time on TCM channel. Sad ending. RIP brothers.

It brings a sense of closure to see the Juneau found. The comrade of Sailors is something most people do not experience.

Only six sailors survived the sinking...

Four others were on the USS San Francisco...

About a 100 survived the sinking, but most of them died waiting for rescue as the other ships thought that no one survived the explosion. They should have know better because even when the Hood was sunk, there were a couple survivors, but not sure if that was well known at the time. It was said that a couple of the Sullivans initially survived.

From what I have read, the Juneau went down very fast, like in 20-30 seconds. The torpedo really blew her apart and the explosion was fierce enough to kill sailors on other ships. They also were worried that the submarine would pick them off as they searched.
