Friends car, 2015 Equinox she bought new with 33k miles of yesterday. I usually change her oil whenever the olm hits 30-35%, its short tripped a mile to her work and back 5 days a week, a longer trip every now and then on the weekends. I usually use Supertech or Smittys SuperSyn Dexos 5W30 with a Fram Ultra. Never had a UOA done, oil always comes out black being a DI engine. I read somewhere online, cant remember where, that the 2.4 DI engines are hard on 5W30, that it would help to step up to a Euro 0W40 such as Mobil 1. Is anyone running a 0W40 or other grade than the recommended 5W30 with success? Im not sure if she has a 5 yr/60k or 5yr/100k warranty though.

Any idea how many miles when it hits 30 - 35% on the OLM?
Make sure you're using Dexos1 Gen2 spec oil.
Keep using the Fram Ultra.
And if it was my car, I would keep changing at 30 - 35% OLM.

Stay with 5w30. 40 weight may be too thick for the camshaft solenoids to function properly.
Use full synthetic dexos 1 gen 2 oil and keep receipts.
Don't go over 5,000 miles.

I STRONGLY recommend getting a UOA.

I have a 2011 Equinox with the 2.4l DI.
They are VERY hard on the oil.
