Wel i finally tried some 30wt in my 2015 L83. Spec is for 0W20. The Mobil 1 5W20 ive been using is 8.9cst @100*C and the 10w30 is 10.1 so they are very close to eachother. There is no difference in how she runs. Very very slightly increased oil pressure. I would guess by the gauge on the dash maybe ~3-4 psi ? Almost identical though. Runs nice and quiet.

I believe the mobil 1 10W30 is a good choice for those wanting to run a 30wt in a 20wt specced vehicle as the viscosity is very close to a 20.

Who else is running a xW30 in these engines? 4.3 5.3 6.2
Thanks. Give it a try!

Your 10w-30 in FL is likely the same as running 0w-20 in the northern US tier and Canada, for much of the year. 10w-30 works great on the Gulf Coast.

I.e. GM hasn't changed the oil spec for the old LT1 engines.

I agree, they are very close in operational viscosity.
I've used a Euro A3 rated 30 grade oil that had an operational viscosity of 12.2 cSt at 100C (Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A3/B4). So your M1 10W30 is closer to the previous M1 5W20 than my Magnatec 5W30 A3/B3.

Your logic is good, grades are coarse, there is better detail looking at the actual measured viscosity values.

Yep somebody short tripping in a Canadian winter on a 20 grade, is most likely using a thicker oil than I am driving through the outback in summer on a 30 grade or even a 40 grade.

We know cars can handle different oil grades, simply because they can handle different climates and driving styles.

2007 chevy w/t 4.3 v6 rolling on 210000 by the end of next week. My first oil change 10 years ago was 10/30 and that grade is all this truck knew. If I bought a new chevy that spec 0/20 as soon as it comes out of warranty it would be either a 5/20 or a 10/30. I live in south Louisiana so I do not see a use for a zero as the first number in my oil.

It is. I saw that the M1 10w30 viscosity was almost the same as the xW20 that is spec. I like it so far!

For some reason a 30wt in this truck make me feel a little more warm and fuzzie.
