Does anyone have any experience with Kendall GT-1 Euro? I have been using Castrol EDGE 0W-40 in my X5 with good results (and a [censored] of a value). However, I'd like to see if switching oils will result in less consumption (primarily through the valve stem seals). EDGE 0W-40 has a healthy slug of PAO, which has excellent properties compared to Group III basestock, however, it has a shrinking effect on seals. I'd like to see if a Group III-based oil (that still retains LL-01) reduces consumption.

I would probably go with the 5W-30. It is on the thick side with a 3.6 HTHS and a 12.2 KV100... It appears the 5W-40 just has more VII since it has the same cold properties as the 5W-30. It's under $6 a quart (still affordable for a 9 quart sump), it has all the same euro manufacturer approvals, and everyone seems to love Kendall's GF-5 oils around here.

Thoughts? Thanks guys!

One thing I just noticed, when you pop in the KV40 and KV100 viscosities of 5W-30 into a VI calculator, you only get a VI of 150. Much lower than the 164 advertised. I'm guessing there is a typo on the KV40 viscosity listed (since it is the same as 5W-40)... it should be around KV40 should be around 74 to get a VI of 164.

Confirmed that TDS is wrong with rep at P66 today. KV40 and KV100 are 70.0 and 11.8.

Also, some other 5W-30 LL-01 options that are toooo spendy are Castrol EDGE 5W-30 A3/B4 ($7.60/qt) and Liqui-Moly Special Tec LL 5W-30 (~$5.80/qt). A fair amount more expensive than my $4.50/qt EDGE 0W-40.
