I have a friend in Austrailia that has fitted a U.S. made oil cooler adaptor to his car, the adaptor takes the commmon (in North America) PH 3614 type filter. However that # apparently does not equate to anything that he recognises as available in Australia.

It is no use telling him to just ask for a filter for a 1995 XXXXX, because the engine for the Australian market is very likely differant.

It is frustrating that different brands use their own referance #'s but more so in a situation like this.

Can anybody help?

That's the same filter as my 2012 Mazda3 2.5L (non-skyactive) uses.

So I believe he could specify that engine/application and find a filter that fits.

I'd check to see what the Mazda part number is and go that way.

I really doubt the engines are that different from the US and Australian markets.

Ford Focus is probably also a good candidate if your friend wants to double check the Ford vs Fram P/N's

I really doubt Ford is using a different filter in Australia from the US if the cars have the same 2.0 or 2.5L engines.

He may have to match the thread pitch and bypass pressure.

Or he could do a cross reference and or the correct Amsoil filters.

The two specs you need to find an oil filter for that adaptor are the gasket OD and the thread spec for the nipple. Find a filter that has those specs and you have it. Also need to know if the filter has ADBV and pressure relief valve. It's not rocket science.

Unfortunatly my friends local parts guy only understands 'Year and model' Give him filter specs and all you get is a blank stare!

Thanks guys, we will try the Ford Focus filter, if that works for him he can cross reference all day long.

Seem pretty close. Not sure about the Anti-drainback Valve or if it even matters in your friends application.

Thank you, that is a match!

I was going to say Ford Escort for the PH3600, but yes I think the Focus uses the PH3614.
