We get something similar around here. South Park Road at Tilden Regional Park in the Berkeley Hills gets closed down every fall for the newt migration. Bicycling and walking are still allowed, but I'm thinking bikes may take out the occasional newt anyways.

In the spring, the snakes migrate from the bluffs to the swamp. To help them out, they close the road.

Despite our natural fear of wiggly things, they need all the help they can get. I've seen signs for salamander crossings and for turtles. There are whole bunches of snakes that are rare now that were way common when I was catching them in grade school.
