Must share this, was talking to a friend the other day and asked about his 09 Mazda3 that he purchased new. Mostly highway miles. Car is now at 220k and he confessed oil was changed once in last 115k some where around 50-60k miles ago. Always checked the oil and just last month had to add 1 quart for the first time! Never used synthetic. His reasoning was he never thought it would last much passed 100k so why waste money on oil. Now he's afraid to change it. I know him he's not a [censored]'r

There's no harm in changing it.

Even the cheapest API-SN one can buy ANYWHERE is better than what is in the sump now.

Ask him to pull the valve cover and let you take a series of photos to post and put them here

Would be very interesting to see that valve train

That's what I was thinking!! Take one for the team, friend!

He was probably like "It's a POS mazda who cares it'll be dead in no time" and now it's doing 115k OCIs and burning a quart every 60k? lol wut?
Is this even real? Did you find out which conventional is in there?

Had a niece that never changed or checked her oil in a Toyota Tercel she drove around. One day, she was all upset that the engine quit on her. Boy did she get it from the family about being so ignorant about car care. Oh and she did wonder about the light on the dash. Yeah it was the light for low oil level.
