Well,,, being a 'tire snob' I am having doubts about the tires on an older car I'm interested in. The tires in question are the Primewell VALERA Sport AS. Anyone have any experience with these? On a 23 year old Japanese sporty car. wink

Capri Racer??

They were on our escape when we bought it. I took them off at half tread for horrible wet/winter weather traction and overly soft floaty sidewalls.

Replaced with cooper SRX all seasons.

Plug the dot code in the site below to see if they've been recalled. They're the discount version of tires for Firestone if that tells you anything.

Yep I agree, cheap junk. And many times the cheap part is not the price, just the quality. I have found cheaper tires that work better for many of my customers when they asked about them.

Indonesian tires.

They were on my truck when I bought it.
Two I took off with lots of tread left, because they had a huge bubble in them (undrivable)

I'll never buy them for myself.

You get what you pay for. I had them on a beater Ford Escort and they were fine. Rode smooth, long lasting, decent traction in wet, but were also loud. They are what they are.

This.

We bought a used Scion XB with half worn primewells, and Firestone replaced them with a set of Z rated primewells for free.

They have been fine for my wife's purposes.

Primewells are made by Giti - an up and coming tire manufacturer based in Singapore. They just opened a plant in South Carolina.

I don't have any personal experience with them, but the fact that they have a US plant based in the heart of tire country, I would expect good things from them.

Exactly, many used car dealers put those tires on just so that they can claim that the tires are new. Not worth the risk OMO. They might be ok for just running around town in mild weather, but I would not trust those brands for extended high speed travel especially when the temps are hot. For $30 more per tire one can be in name brand tire that is far more reliable.

My DIL has had them on her Fusion Sport for about 2 1/2 years.

They are a 40,000 mile tire and she's at that point right now with regular rotations. Time to replace due to low tread. No issues the whole time. I've driven the car a few times and they were smooth and quiet.

If she keeps the car she'll buy again.

Our vanpool van went into Firestone for service through Enterprise Rideshare. It was determined that the van needed new tires and Firestone installed these cheapo Primewell brand tires. I had never heard of them and a quick google search reports they are only sold through Firestone. They definitely do not perform well in the rain and thankfully I would never install them on any of my personal vehicles.

I had a similar experience. We bought an '03 Taurus a few years back and it had Primewell's on it. I'm pretty particular about tires but I had zero complaints, even in wet/bad weather. Honestly, they were better than other name brand tires I had had on other cars. Would I buy them with my own money? Nope, but I didn't mind them on an older used car.
