Man it seems like a leave this site for 6 months and the whole world changes! Needing to do an oil change in my truck. Got a little bit of seal leakage so I'm automatically leaning toward PPHM but they dont have it in 40 weight.

So The engine is a little worked over, making around 400chp, but it is a roller cam. 30 weight oil has way to low oil pressure when idling hot, so i stick with 40 weight. 10w gives it 80 psi of pressure when cold, so im thinking a 0w-40 may be just right.

I do have several cases of PP Euro that i use for my bmw. Tempted to just use it. Its 5w 40.

Also i am a little surprised by rat540s wear rating on the pennzoil platinum oils. Grain of salt, I'm sure they hold up better under real world use than some that rank higher, but valvoline full synthetic max life high milage did look like a decent candidate. I only run each vehicle 5000 a year or so now adays (live 1 mile from work) so I change yearly, not on oci. Im Not sure how valvoline would hold up for a year in the sump, and it doesnt come in 40 weight so im not jumping to use it. Just a thought.

I'd use that 5w40 PP Euro or some Castrol Edge 0w40 or 5w40

M1 FS 0w-40 or Castrol 0w-40.

Just plain ol' "Full Synthetic".... Not AFE, EP, AP, etc etc etc

To be honest, if I were you I would just run this:

Ive tried 10w's and I dont like how high the oil pressure is at startup. I dont let my vehicles idle very long. I get in and drive easy and I'll have 80 psi for the first 5 miles or so.

Just the most recent incarnation of Mobil's standard Euro 0w-40. It no longer carries LL-01, but neither does the Pennzoil 0w-40.

It's an excellent oil, but you can't really go wrong with any of the Euro 0w-40's.

Picked up 5 quarts of M1 5w-40 and a tough guard. They didnt have ultra guard. But I'll i will be doing some dyno tuning on this truck in the next few months, and may even tear down the engine, so I'm sure it will get changer again this year. I'll watch the oil pressure to see if i need to stick with a 0-40 or go back to a 5w-40

Buy an oil cap that just says "OIL".
Flip it around, then go back to Walmart and demand 710 weight oil.

The cold oil pressure doesn't matter. Where do you bet the idea about the cold oil pressure? All that matters regarding the oil filter is that it doesn't fail and the most important filter is the air filter.

Why would cold oil pressure not matter? High pressure indicates less flow. Which would only be caused by thick oil and tight clearances. Id rather have thinner oil flowing everwhere fast than thicker oil not flowing as much into or out of bearings, up pushrods, into lifters etc. Ive seen top ends that didnt get enough oil in winter startups. Now if 0 weight gave me 5 psi at start up i wouldnt use it, but i get 35-40. With 10w i get 80. Remeber this is Not a factory engine. All the clearances are a little on the tight side.

The 0w-40 euro or one of the 5w-40 HDEO

rat540 has been widely discredited here on BITOG for his methodology and the lack of statistical analysis of his results.
