Hello all,

In looking at my past oil analysis results, I was curious about Zinc and Phosphorus levels. See link for UOA below.

https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ub...owe#Post4355305

My UOA with Valvoline 5w-40 (CJ-4) showed Zinc at 1,340 and Phosphorus at 1,065

My UOA with Delvac 5w-40 (CJ-4) showed Zinc at 977 and Phosphorus at 878.

Both are CJ-4 so why did Delvac show lower numbers? Is Zinc and Phosphorus sacrificial? My Delvac 5w-40 is from 2016 so I doubt they bottled CK-4 in it. Wear numbers are good with Delvac especially since I towed vs not towed on Valvoline. What do you all think?

Has delvac both SN & CJ-4 certificates? If so...that is your answer for why lower ZDDP levels...

I checked the current CK-4 spec sheet and both have SN. Found both CJ-4 spec sheets and both don't meet SN. Thanks for the idea.

Api Cy... HDEO

Api Sy + whatever... PCMO

For API SN the Phos & Zinc levels are restricted for 30 & 20 grade oils and lower, but for 40 grades and higher there is no restriction.

I'm using Penrite 10W40 and it has 1200 ppm zinc and it's rated API SN.

CJ-4 requires that phosphorous levels be between 600 and 1200 ppm, so the Rotella and Delvac are both in spec.

They're different to each other because they're different oils.
