I received a Microsoft Critical Error Message about 5 minutes after uninstalling Kaperskey Internet Security .

It states someone is trying to get my personal bank info, etc . It looks like a scam . I did not reply or call the number .

Is there any chance this is linked to the Kaperskey that was just removed or just weird timing ?

Nope, but you probably clicked on something you shouldn't have. Perhaps something that Kaspersky had been protecting you from.

You had Kasperskey installed? Wipe the drive.

a less radical solution would be to use the removal tool first

Sometimes a radical solution is best. Wipe the drive.

malwarebytes and avira free are good options. However, I'm going to assume you deleted Kaspersky, because you have another protection suite you prefer, right?

I got the same thing after uninstalling free Baidu Antivirus. I disregarded it and installed free Adaware Antivirus. My desktop is fine, now three days later. So is my banking.

This Adaware Free is noticeably faster than what I originally had last month (Avira Free). I uninstalled Baidu right away after uninstalling Avira,, due to getting a blank, blue screen on my desktop after installation. I guess Baidu was not compatible with my Dell system.

I will never install Avira again. It works great for about a month, then slows my computer surfing down noticeably afterwards..... and that's the bare-bones version with none of their free promotional downloads or Firefox Add-On's included. Loading all that garbage makes it even slower.

Prior to the uninstall I did a full scan and it found no issues . It was the end of a free trial . I was thinking of Avast but I will check out the ones mentioned . Thanks .

I will not do any online shopping or bill paying until I install a new antivirus . I am not sure using Defender is safe enough .

May I humbly suggest ESET NOD32, you should be able to find it on Amazon for a song.

Defender under Win 10 is good enough for me. That and ublock and Ghostery in Chrome. Also practicing safe surfing helps too.

Pointless fearmongering.

I had that same message last summer. I ran a scan with Super anti Spyware (free)and it was what is known as a (pup) potentially unwanted program. Super Anti Spyware found it and got rid of it. On that machine I was running Norton antivirus, on our mainfamily pc we have ran Avast forever and never ever had that type of thing happen. Dumped the Norton and went with Avast. A free quick scan with Superantispyware or Malware bytes will likely get rid of it.. it did in my case. Both free and they scan in about 5 minutes. You can always use a sandbox for another layer of online banking encryption several that are free.I like sandboxie or avast safezone.

I work under DoD in Cyber Security with a TS/SCI clearance. Please explain to me what I'm fearmongering about? I gave my honest opinion to the OP. If Kasperskey touched anything of mine, I would, without hesitation, wipe the drive.

I never run an antivirus, I will run Eset online scanner once in a while, and avoid scetchy activities, like porn, warez, etc, and the only viruses I ever got was the ones deliberately installed (cracked apps).
This, and no updates lets my computers run error free, and at peak performance for years without the need for a re install of OS.
Really though, antivirus stuff is a joke. Just backup important things, and let the mother burn. When it acts up, wipe fresh and go again. I have yet to wipe a computer for any issues though, so be smart and don't worry.
