10W40 HM oil in a Chevrolet 4.2L inline 6? #4679014

Guys,

I picked up a bunch of 10W40 HM full synthetic oil (both M1 and Castrol) at the AZ clearance a few months ago. My plan was to use it on my son's 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe which specs all KINDS of weights in the owner's manual. I still plan to do that, but I got so much I was thinking about using it on my daughter's 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with the 4.2L too (even though it specs 5W30). Thoughts? Has anyone had issues running a 40 weight in this engine? Should I be OK? I live in Texas so it never gets too cold.

Thanks in advance...

Run it, I ran 0w-20 in that motor for 10k miles. It doesnít care.

Plus, the FE is so bad in a Trailblazer that you canít see the difference.

I put 10w30 in any Atlas engines that come through my shop with any mentionable mileage, anyway. Shouldn't hurt a thing, especially being synthetic.

It's a straight 6 and a Chevy. It is not a highly advanced motor. It will run on most anything.

Cool--thanks, guys. Yeah, I'd never even seen 10W40 in a full synthetic but it was such a good price I had to pick it up. I got 10 quarts of the M1 and 14 quarts of the Castrol back in December/January. :-)

RP used to make a 10W40 synthetic too (I'm guessing they still do?). Yep,it's a rare beast!

Run up to Atwood's in Lacy Lakeview
and get 5qts of full synthetic Harvest King 0W-20 for $11....

then mix it 50/50
(that's my plan)

I'm running 10W40 right now, no problems in my GM Ecotec.
