Anyone watching? I just read an article about the womens US team beating the Canadian womens team. Then, one of the Canadian women team members took her silver medal off in frustration from losing the gold to the US. Sounds like bad sportsmanship.
Also, the US mens team won a gold medal in Curling. WOW! Who would have thunk (thought) that?
Last I heard, the 'Wegians had more gold than any other country.
GEAUX USA!

Yeah, USA men's hockey didn't do so well.

Glad women's hockey USA won

Too bad Lindsey Vonn didn't medal

Good thing she is past her expiry date. She is a absolute disgrace and should never be allowed to participate again in anything.

I was very happy with Sweden getting gold to upset Germany in mens biathlon relay. Ski cross country 20 miles, and shoot lights out - talk about breath control... And the firing line was gusting to something like 20

Meh she took her medal off as she was emotional. Dont think she should of but who cares. Not to be a poor loser but I think USA still would of won but no game should be decided by a shoot out. Never thought id see Canada get more medals than the USA.

I think the Olympics is a craze use of money to build stadiums and arenas for 2 weeks worth of use. Most of the time they do not get reused for anything else.

I'd be in favor of having one for summer and the same for winter and just build the needed venues and keep them in use. Greece can have the summer Olympics. Find a place for the winter Olympics that will still have snow in 50 years.

I'd be fine also with two for summer and two for winter and rotate.

Actually, she’s #2 in the current World Cup downhill standings and had the fastest time in the most recent downhill event in PyeongChang - just a few days ago. Far from being expired.

Isn't she one of the low life's that broke their promise about moving from the US forever?
I wonder what the hockey sticks and uniforms looked like when the Roman Empire ruled under Augustus Caesar? Did they fill the Roman Colosseum with water and freeze it somehow for use as the hockey rink? What did they use for a hockey puck?

+1
At least she won't be seeing the peach blossoms in DC. Oh, wait a minute. She wasn't planning on going anyway.
Do you detect a thick smearing of sarcasm? I surely hope so.

Why a disgrace ?

I didn't watch any of the Olympics either. I was reading a news article and it led to an Olympics article, in which I posted about. I don't support any of the Olympic participants that used other reasons (I can't state, in fear of getting a vacation) to protest about, after the fact.

Leave it that she made some not so nice comments about the current climate in the US, and how she wouldn't go to the White House if invited.

If the comment above that she was one of the folks who vowed to leave the USA is true, that may set others to be upset too, especially since she essentially wears and represents our flag in this international event.

Not sure if the question was honest or an attempt to take this thread down a bad path, Ill assume the former, but any other discussion on this is off limits.

I started out watching the Olympics, but quickly got discouraged when I saw how poorly we (the US) were doing. We used to be on top, or at least in the top for gold medals, but in the last couple of winter Olympics, our athletes haven't been as competitive as they have been in the past, and the men especially. Our men's hockey team was a joke! What happened to these teams being made up of pro players? Don't they do that anymore? At least our women athletes are still doing well for the most part...

I watched quite a bit of it with the kids, ski jumping made an impression for sure! as did the half pipe sports. Also the
DH slalom was good to see why you want to carve your turns to keep your speed up. For kids its a great learning experience, with all the different nations and sports they've never heard about.
I don't really like how the IOC operates and how much the games cost the host nation, but no one forces a country to take it.
I am impressed they took a stand against Russia though, that does show they can't be bought out on some issues atleast.

Vonn's skis got all burned to heck during her DH medal run and she still took third...thought I do have to say that she really threw her tuner under the bus by showing the ruined skis off on TV. She is definitely a bit of a [censored] person and always knows where the cameras are, but you can't argue with her greatness (which is not all in the past, BTW). You want to really jump on a skier for the Olympics, look at the reigning SG queen from Switzerland who got knocked off the podium by a snowboarder...I will say that SG gold medal winner skied like a maniac who didn't seem to care too much about staying alive, guess she didn't really have anything to lose and just went all out on the edge of staying in control. Crazy stuff like that makes the Olympics fun, remember Wild Bill Johnson nearly biting it on his jumps in Sarajevo and hanging on for gold in the DH?

The NHL refused to take a break for the Olympics this year, which definitely ruined the chances of the US and Canadian teams. You look at how many of the Winter Olympic medals are for sports that are totally marginal in the US like XC skiing, bobsled, skeleton, luge, ski jumping, biathlon, etc. and it makes complete sense that we get stomped by Norway and Germany in the medal count. The US does extremely well in "trick" skiing and boarding because those sports are wildly popular here...the ones that shock me are ski racing (hundreds of active programs in the US) and figure skating (also very popular in many parts of the country), and it's totally amazing to me that we don't have seem to have a man who is really a force in WC skiing other than the aging GS specialist Ted Ligety.

Not sure why the word I used to describe Vonn was censored, but she is well known to be a bit sensitive, self-absorbed, and difficult to get along with...it wasn't a secret that she had few friends on previous US Olympic ski teams.
Another thing I forgot to mention about Olympic sports that are marginal in the US is how many medals are given for many of them...2 and 4 crew in the bobsled, single and double luge, different sizes of ski jump, all kinds of biathlon (?????) variations, etc. The US needs to push for medals for different halfpipe sizes, skinny and wide snowboards/skis, and other stupid stuff like that to get a leg up on medal counts! Jeez, wouldn't you think the worldwide fan base for snowboarding in the halfpipe would be 1000X what it is for any kind of biathlon??

From an Anglocentric view it was great for the UK. Lizzie Yarnold retaining her skeleton bob gold, and the Olympic team gained some gongs in other disciplines. Our best winter Olympics ever, from a team with no Government backing. It's not like we have much snow to practice in either.

Claud.
