I found this post on a BG Repís Facebook Page.

Any ideas on why adding MOA would yield such a significant improvement? How relevant is the TFOUT test for modern applications?

From https://www.astm.org/Standards/D7098.htm:

Quote:
Within similar additive chemistries and base oil types, the ranking of oils in this test appears to be predictive of ranking in certain engine tests. When oils having different additive chemistries or base oil type are compared, results may or may not reflect results in engine tests.

So yeah, ASTM apparently believes TFOUT is a decent test -- but not a valid way to compare lubes with different chemistries.

So, I'd think the big question for MOA is whether it's substantially changing any given oil's chemistry. If so, then even these impressive TFOUT improvements would be meaningless on their own.

I notice all the oils are dino and one semi synthetic which did better than the others without the additive. BG has a reputation for making some decent stuff but I have no idea what this could be and what effect it would have with full synthetics.
I am a little hesitant to call it snake oil although it may be. Maybe Mola will chime in.

BG makes awesome stuff. I use both their MOA and 44K products.

Pennzoil FTW! smile Yeah, if synthetics were run in the same test and returned times significantly better than the ones here, the additive makes no sense. Why spend $17 for 5qts conventional then drop $13-22 (depending on purchase location) for an additive when just spending an extra $2-8 will net better results and not have any question about its performance?

MOA is a plain Oleic Acid used in other lubricants widely.
Ballistol as german gun oil is OA based.
In mainstream lubricants detergents designed to counteract acids so when you add OA you reduce life of your detergents which will drop your TBN.
You can buy a 55-gallon barrel for few hundred and have enough for a lifetime.

Think using Lubegard Biotech or even Redline Oil in the appropriate weight as even an additive would beat MOA.

Bump. Thought this was an interesting experience post:

I wonder what BG MOA has in it that caused the oil consumption to change?
