i used to own a 04 camry before it got rear ended. it had over 300k on the clock. it always ran 5/30 10/30 10/40 15/40. is there anyone here that has a vehicle over 250k that has always had 0/20 in it? i dont see a thin oil and engines lasting 500k. as the engine wears, whats going to provide extra film in the cylinder walls? when you start looking around overseas, the exact same engine used in the same car over there, they run a higher grade oil, and the manual states 0/20 for best mpg, but we really want you to run a 30 or 40wt you can also go to M1 and it will tell you. google m1 uk, enter vehicle, and engine, you'll get the weight they use there. i think the European cars use a higher weight oil for a reason, its better for protection, especially constant high speed driving

Just earlier today in multiple threads there were some guys saying Toyotas don't last 300k miles because they only take 1 kind of oil and that only Ford and Chevy trucks can last to that mileage because they can take any oil. Lo and behold, this guy's Camry was on lots of oils and also lasted that long.b

Loc: severe climate TX, but a 0w-20...
If 0w-20 oils don't burn and are shear stable and minimize and do not accelerate deposits, try some 0w-20. I know I've had higher viscosity oil burn but I am using a shear stable 0w-20 right now in the same severe climate and these 0w-20s simply do not burn but now does it minimize engine deposits especially on the intake valves, I won't know but you should check that these things are not happening when you choose your oil!!!

0w-20- Smooth warm-ups due to Less drag of a 0w-20, is never a drag..also better FE so THIN as POSSIBLE, Thick as NECESSARY!! Wear, primarily being on start-up/warm-up. Still 20 weight @ 100 /215F!

what i find interesting, the exact same engine, the mfg suggest different weights, ill switch to GC on the next change, more than likely 0/40, this car is run hard, if my mpg goes from 30 to 28, you wont even notice
ford said in there trucks now to switch to 5/30 and dropped the 5/20, dodge ram diesel now goes to rotella t6 5w/40 instead of a 10/30, x16 and x20 are only for mpg imho

I have 164k on my Prius, all oil changes except for two, were using 0W20.

I maintain my neighbors 2010 Camry and it's doing just fine at 170,000 miles on 0W-20 and 5,000 mile intervals. And to the horror of some it also uses Toyota OEM oil filters.

This is a timing chain engine so there is potential for high wear in those areas. This particular car has not had any of the intake cam VVT issues that are addressed in a Toyota service bulletin.

I'll continue with 0W-20 until the vehicle starts to consume oil and then I will try 5W-30 HM.

I used to also be skeptical of 0W-20 but if i had a car that spec'd it i would use it without worries really.
Given that i don't like modern cars though it's unlikely i'll ever buy 0W-20.
In fact i have never in my life bough an oil thinner than 10W-40 smile
I've only owned 70s, 80s, 90s Fords, Opels and Peuegots that all spec'd 10W-40 or thicker.
