Funny this thread came up. My 2014 Cruze diesel just went in to the dealership for a CEL that shows an issue with them. Turned out to be the control module was grounding out. Replace it and all is well. $392 later of which I only paid a $100 deductible my extended warranty covered most of it and the rental car.

You probably won't save $100 worth of fuel over the life of the car because of these things, not to mention whatever amount it added to the price of the car to put them in to start with.

Condemn Ford for whatever, but it's far from the only OEM using ASGs.

I'm actually part of the group who thinks modern cars are overly complex, but the cost/benefit ratio is obviously compelling enough for ASGs to be employed on a variety of vehicle types, and market segments, from luxo barges to econoboxes.
