Hello BITOGers,

What would you see as valuable skills to teach Today's children?

If you can be as specific as group by age and if sometimes could apply to both boys and girls,
It would be appreciated.

My turn:
-reading
-multiple languages
-mental math
-dressing for weather
-be aware of your surroundings
-cooking basics
-fire/flame safety
-safe use of simple tools
-don't panic
-self defense

What do you do when pretty much all the other kids around them are learning a different thing?
example:
-cut the line
-the loudest mouth wins
-the one that pushes the most wins
-etc etc

don't you consider you are giving the kids a handicap since you are teaching them to follow the rules to the letter, when others don't?

-self defense
-question things you don't believe to be true
-follow the rules but don't let people walk all over you either
-think for yourself
-respect authority (such as teachers, police, bosses, etc)

Something is not right when we have to ask questions like these on public forums.

Help me Spock.

MANNERS
RESPECT
TEAMWORK

The main thing missing in the lives of these kiddies that go on killing sprees.

Do your homework first

Learn how to deal with difficult people

Learn to never give up (Persistence pays)

Don't cross the street glued to your cell phone

Learn the art of patience

Realize that the world owes you nothing

Short term pain for long term gain.
Demand and supply always win (so pick a skill that is high in demand and willing to switch field based on demand, not passion).
Always know what you can afford to lose, and take risk accordingly.
There is always a home you can come back to if you are beaten up outside.
Be competitive, but also be considerate of others.

All the others they'll be able to figure it out along the way.

Mistakes are made every day.
Acknowledge your mistakes so you don't make them again.
Move on.
Seems no one is ever wrong these days and only their answers are correct. Tough to learn anything that way.
