I ordered some of this ammo from Academy online. I had an Academy $15 gift certificate and used it towards said ammo and some Monarch FMJ (target rounds). I looked all over YouTube and Google for ballistic gel testing on the HTP to no avail. My go to personal defense ammo is anything HST and these HTP's look kind of close to HST's.
HTP on left, HST on right. Both are 180 gr.
Opinions on the HTP?

Saw a YouTube video of the 9mm variety. Gal shot a gel block at end of video and expansion was mediocre.

Thanks gentlemen, for your replies. I guess I will use them for target practice. I don't feel that bad about buying them since I had that $15 coupon.
Has anyone ever made a ballistic gel block? I'm going to Google it to see how hard/expensive it is.
Thanks again.

The HTP's feed well and are very accurate in my experience, but as stated expansion is not their strong suit unless you get velocities up higher than most handguns will.

I noticed in the Lucky Gunner test that they tended to tumble in the target, interesting.

If you’re looking for a good SD round in that caliber, try this:

Or this:

Both excellent choices and under .50/round from SG Ammo.

Thanks Astro, this is where I buy about 90% of my ammo. Currently at SGAmmo.com, I have "PLEASE NOTIFY ME" on some 165 gr. Ranger-T ammo, .40 S&W, 165 gr. HST .40 S&W, and 147 gr. HST +P 9mm. That Ranger-T expanded to .908- that's almost an inch! I would not want to be on the receiving end of that bullet! I currently have a 50 rd. box of 180 gr. HST .40 S&W and a 50 rd. box of 124 gr. HST 9mm. I also have a 50 rd. box of 165 gr. PDX1 .40 S&W.
