For those who are interested, use code: freetaxusa10 to get 10% off your order from freetaxusa.com

It's free for federal and $12.95 for each state. The code will take 10% off your grand total.

Note: if you pay with your federal return, they charge an extra $19.95 in addition to your state order ($12.95 each). However, no extra charge if you use a credit card.

I can recommend them. Got sick of paying $40+ for the major tax sites and tried them out and got mine filed.

The return amount was identical to TaxAct, and the step-by-step stuff was largely the same. I do itemized deductions and they cover most IRS forms (DIV, INT, mortgage interest). If you have the PDFs from last year's filing, you can upload it to them and they'll parse out the major stuff.

i will also recommend them.
I started using freetaxusa ever since the bigger companies started charging you for the the deluxe/premium version if you had an HSA.

I do federal efile for free then take that data and do my state via the illinois website

turbotax, taxact, h and R block, wont even let me fill out questions without paying first...

Yes, After using them for years now, I don't understand why people use Turbo Tax. Maybe they just haven't found out about this yet. Very happy with their service.

I put this up because from what I heard from a friend who used Taxact this year, is that they are having trouble sending returns to the IRS. She filed on the day the IRS accepted returns and still haven't received confirmation that they accepted her return. The sad part is, she said, that TaxAct blamed it on her and eventually admitted that they have issues with their software sending to the IRS.

She refiled using freetaxusa (on my suggestion) and her federal return was accepted in 15 mins. So if you're looking for a site that is similar to Taxact but w/o issues, I suggest freetaxusa.

I was using Taxact the last few years and had no problems but this year they lowered the age requirements to 56 or younger so it sent me looking for a new one. I looked at the four or five that were listed on the IRS website for my age and I hate to admit it but I choose freetaxusa because I liked their website but it worked out great. As others have mentioned they accepted my return in about an hour.

One thing I don't understand is why some of these places have age restrictions, anyone know why?

I have used Taxact for several years and used Freetaxusa for the first time this year. More than pleased with the software. I submitted my return on the 1/26 and it was accepted by the fed and state in a very short time.

I had no idea any of the tax software had/have age restriction on them to use. shrug That's new to me.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one using and really liking FreeTaxUSA.

Not sure when they started, I do remember it from last year but this year there are more places listed on the IRS site and most have some sort of age limits.

https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/jsp/index.jsp

I filed on the 3rd and both my fed and state hit my account yesterday, not bad.

Wow, that's quite interesting. I never knew about the age limits. I'm also wondering why.

Yeah, I filed mine on 2/1 and the federal return was in my bank account on 2/9. Still waiting on Michigan. Coffee
