When I run out of my stash of name brand oils (Chevron Supreme, Valvoline SynPower MaxLife, Castrol Magnatec) I'm going to be switching back to O'Reilly house brand oils. Sure I can hunt around for good deals on "name brands" but it's easier just to grab oil off the shelf when I need it, get the employee discount, and move on in life. When I had my 92 Chevy 1500 with a flat tappet cam I was picky and switched to Royal Purple HPS for more ZDDP but neither my Escape nor my Suburban are picky and I'm sure O'Reilly Full Synthetic will be fine for a long time. Still going to use the Wix filters even though I have like a bin full of MicroGards.
I just don't like paying for the advertising to buy something like Valvoline/Castrol/etc for simple, naturally aspirated, non-direct-injection engines in my vehicles. For a "regular" vehicle with "regular" OCIs the only difference is the sticker on the bottle.
If I had a BMW or something of course I'd have to use BMW-spec oil like Castrol Edge or something.
